How can Europe’s rich agricultural data help us better understand land-use change?
The team from Leibnica Lauksaimniecības attīstības pārejas ekonomikas valstīs institūts (IAMO), consisting of Professor Dr. Daniel Müller, Deputy Head of Department Structural Change, and Clemens Jänicke, Research Associate of the Department Structural Change, brings a data-driven perspective to understanding land-use change across Europe.
Within Europe-LAND, IAMO contributes to Work Package Two by developing a European IACS (Integrated Administration and Control System) data repository that brings together, harmonizes, and documents spatially detailed agricultural data from EU Member States. The Harmonized IACS Inventory currently covers up to 18 years of field-level data from 20 EU member states, including information on land use, crops, farms and organic farming. By making these data more accessible and comparable across countries, Europe-LAND provides a valuable basis for research on agricultural land-use and land-use change and supports better evidence for European land-use policies. GDPR restrictions, however, limit the amount of data that can be made publicly available.
