Europe-LAND is excited to announce that our Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), “Land Use and Sustainability in Europe: From Policy to Practice” will launch in Spring 2026. Designed for students, practitioners, policymakers, and anyone working at the intersection of land, climate, and biodiversity, the online offering brings together the latest scientific insights, real-world case studies, and interactive tools developed across the project.

What the Course Covers:
The MOOC is structured into six modules, combining expert lectures, case studies, interactive exercises, and hands-on use of the Europe-LAND Toolbox.
Module 1 – Introduction: An overview of the course, the Europe-LAND project, and how to navigate the online learning platform.
Module 2 – Land-Use Behavior & Drivers: A look at historical land-use change in Europe, key drivers shaping current landscapes, and insights from IACS data.
Module 3 – Awareness in Land-Use Decisions: Introduction to Living Labs, stakeholder mapping, participatory methods, and scenario-building techniques.
Module 4 – Future Land-Use Mapping: Exploration of predictive modelling approaches and climate change mitigation through scenario-based tools.
Module 5 – Biodiversity & Climate Adaptation: How land-use policies support biodiversity conservation and climate adaptation, illustrated through case studies and international frameworks.
Module 6 – The Europe-LAND Toolbox: Practical tutorials on using our web-GIS platform to explore land-cover changes, analyze case-study data, and apply course concepts.
