A new peer-reviewed publication in Environmental Development<\/a> contributes to advancing Living Lab methodologies in land system research, building directly on work published earlier this year<\/a> within the Europe-LAND project. The article is a key output of Task 3.2 on Living Labs and strengthens the conceptual and methodological foundations for co-created, practice-oriented land research in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The publication <\/a>develops a structured framework for understanding and applying Living Lab approaches in land system contexts. Living Labs are increasingly used to support collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders in addressing complex land use challenges, particularly where spatial trade-offs and competing interests must be balanced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on a systematic literature review, the study identifies key dimensions of Living Lab practice, including stakeholder engagement, co-creation processes, spatial embeddedness, and iterative knowledge exchange. It also highlights the diversity of existing approaches across Europe and the need for clearer methodological alignment in land system applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A central message of the publication is that Living Labs can help bridge the gap between research and decision-making in land systems by embedding knowledge production in real-world contexts and involving stakeholders throughout the process. At the same time, however, the study highlights that Living Lab approaches remain heterogeneous and often lack consistent methodological guidance. The proposed framework addresses this by clarifying core components and offering a more structured basis for future applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Europe-LAND, the publication represents an important step in consolidating the project\u2019s methodological contributions to Living Lab research.
